Vic Firth unveil New Artist Signature Sticks

Vic Firth Company, the world's largest and leading manufacturer of drumsticks and mallets, are set to release a host of new artist signature stick models in 2012. New signature wood from Gavin Harrison and George Kollias are the first to be unveiled.

Gavin Harrison’s work with King Crimson and Porcupine Tree has influenced drummers worldwide and set a new standard for progressive rock drumming. Born in England into a musical family, Gavin grew up listening to jazz greats like Miles Davis and Art Farmer. Early on, he realized that he was destined to be a professional drummer. As a musician, Gavin’s success has stemmed from his great stylistic versatility, so designing a stick to reflect that versatility was a must!

Gavin’s new signature stick is crafted in hickory and features an elongated ROCK shaft with a blended taper and tip, delivering an ideal combination of power and playability. Striking this balance was key to unlocking the raw energy, finesse and musicality for which Gavin is so well known. “Although large”, Gavin states, “My new signature sticks are extremely balanced and versatile enough to be played at all dynamics.” Gavin’s sticks also feature our anti-slip Vic Grip coating in blue, for an enhanced grip and distinctive look.

New George Kollias Signature Stick

Vic Firth is proud to announce the new George Kollias Signature Stick! 

George Kollias, drummer for the extreme metal band Nile, is renowned for his outrageous technical prowess! With feet that move faster than most people’s hands, George has brought a new level of possibilities to drum set playing. His very successful DVD, Intense Metal Drumming, has made him a household name in the drumming world! “I have been a Vic player for all my drumming life because the sticks are the best,” says Kollias. “And yet, I knew there were new design possibilities for those of us who play extreme metal. Something that would allow me to play super fast with comfort, while producing the tone and feel I desire.” 

The new George Kollias signature stick blends the shaft, taper and neck of the immensely popular 5A & 5B models. Finished off with a classic barrel-shaped tip, this stick delivers a clear cymbal sound and full drum tone. “While the shaft size of my stick makes for a versatile choice,” claims Kollias, “it is the barrel-shaped tip we used that makes this stick so special. It provides an aggressive feel and allows me to play at speeds like no other stick I have played. I have gained more control when playing ghost notes and I can play to my maximum speed for longer periods. Last but not least…it feels great!”
